F.A.Q "Frequently Asked Questions." (last update: 8/10/09) |The Basics.| The History. | OPAW Team.| Misc.| - What does "OPAW" stand for?Alliesawn replied:It's the abbreviated title for "Of Paws and Wings". - What is "Of Paws and Wings"?Krissy replied:It was an accidental novel of mine at first. But then I met Jillian, and we've been collaborating to transform this small Fantasy-Fiction tale into a complex set of online [stuff?], including a graphic novel we hope to sell in the future, a promotional trailer to make the characters of OPAW come to life, and possibly more! - What's "Of Paws and Wings" about?Krissy replied:"Of Paws and Wings" is a mix-up genre of adventure and fantasy. It's the story of a young wolf named Zraya who was prophesied to be the one to defeat Ennov, the main protagonist of the series. It chronicles her adventure, alongside her dragon-partner Frosty, as they travel the Ancient Lands, overcoming the many difficult challenges and obstacles that arise to stop them from achieving their ultimate goal: to end Ennov's dark reign. - Why did you name it "Of Paws and Wings"?Krissy replied:I remember that I was at dinner with my sister, and I was scribbling down many possible titles in my notebook for the novel. At some point, I had drawn a paw print and then a set of dragon wings. So I wrote "Of Paws, and Wings." It was going to be temporary, but when I met Jill, she really liked it. So in the end, we decided to keep it instead as opposed to changing it.

|The History.| - How was it started? Krissy replied:A year ago when I was writing RockBottom (one of my more recent writings that I've been working on) I was facing a HUGE writer's block. A friend of mine said that she could guarantee a way to solve it, but only if I helped her write a fantasy novel in return.
So, she ended up setting me up with some awesome literature roleplayers to help me get out of my rut. I had to keep up my side of the bargain, so we tried to form a storyline that involved her dragon character, Frosty, and my wolf character, Zraya. After we failed to come up with any plots for a book, we ended up just roleplaying with the characters. Sadly, she left a long time ago and told me to forget about the fantasy novel. But at this point, I had found more ideas. After writing a few chapters, it formed into the novel now referred to as "Of Paws and Wings".
- What were the first character sets? How did you think of their names?Krissy replied:Honestly, the three oldest were Azulon, Zraya, and Frosty.
Zraya goes back about 3 years. Bryn, a friend of mine, got me into a blogging site called Xanga.com. She had created an exotic username, and I felt the need to do so aswell. So I just made up a name at the top of my head, which was Zraya. Now I use it for the main character of OPAW.
Azulon's was funny. I was driving down the street and this sign said 'Azelea Street'. I liked the name but wanted a male version, so I named him Azulon. [Having been completely unaware of the Avatar's Azulon at the time. D;]
Frosty was from the girl that started OPAW with me a few years ago. We created a longer name for her. Frosty is just her nickname.
-How did Jillian [barkback] and Krissy [zraya218] meet?

|The OPAW Team.|
- What is the 'OPAW Team'? Krissy replied:The OPAW team is just that: a team that consists of people who assist with the production of a variety of OPAW materials. It has an invisible system that people on the team are somewhat aware of. It has the main people, like the author, the main illustrator, the editor, and the web designer.
Then you have concept artists, the people who help us sort out scenery, characters, names, creatures, wildlife, etc. Then we have the section of voice actors, who although these people aren't technically on the team since they don't go to work sessions or talk about the OPAW plot/works, they still assists with us. - Who is all on the team? What do they do?Krissy replied:There's a lot of people that are technical members. In fact, there's more than we're really are currently aware of.
Krissy [zraya218]: the author. Jillian [BarkBack]: the artist. Alliesawn [nightmaric-melodies]: the coder. Luna [lunastar]: the editor.
Outside of this is numerous concept artists, voice actors-- just way too many people to list. We'll edit the list more as we figure out everyone who participates in it. - Can I be on the team?Krissy replied:That depends.
If you think you can personally help us do concepts on certain things, or if you can animate-(Jill animates, but she doesn't mind a few helping hands!)- then you may ASK the main author [Krissy] if you can join. But be sure to have some examples of your work!
Also, if you plan on asking Jill, she'll most likely send you to me for an answer.
If you'd like to voice a character, BY ALL MEANS, feel free! We have a ton of characters open at the moment, and we need a variety of voices.

|Miscellaneous.| - How much money are you paying everyone to get all this OPAW stuff up and running?[Krissy will rip your head off and eat it on toast if you ever ask her this, so read the answer throughly!] "Okay, this is my personal favorite [sarcasm] question because people tend to think that I am some newbie who can't manage to do anything on her own. [ex. Most people think I commission Jillian to draw out the comic, that I commission people to animate the OPAW promo, that I pay Alliesawn to help program the awesome website we're making, that I'm paying my editor to WRITE OPAW, that I'm paying people to voice the characters, etc. Overall, people just pretty much think that OPAW is NOT mine.
I suppose I consider myself lucky. I am not sharing my idea with complete strangers. I work with some of the people that are closest to me. They are all considered some of my best friends, and we enjoy working together.
Unless I'm paying them to be my friend, but I'm not.
We enjoy what we do, and working with each other is just one of the many bonuses that come from it. Jill enjoys my writing and the story, I enjoy her art skills, so we mixed our talents together to create something. And we appreciate Alliesawn and Luna for working with us as well!
Bottom line? I don't commission people. I just work with awesome individuals that help in making OPAW a fun comic. And honestly, we do it cause we like it, not to become famous. We actually take pleasure in working with each other.
- Why does Zraya occasionally appear with wings in fanart?Krissy replied:Well, there are a handful of reasons as to why this is.
When I first created Zraya, she was just a roleplaying character. Thus, the possibilities were endless, and I felt like putting wings on her for the hell of it. But when we got serious, and started the comic and novel, we removed the wings to keep the story somewhat more realistic.
Fanart still tends to have Zraya with wings for four more reasons: 1.) Some people just enjoy drawing her with wings. (Like Jillian, who knows she can't have them in the comic but insists on drawing them in any gift art! <3)
2.) They are probably really old, from the time when I described Zraya as posessing wings.
3.) The fact that I'm REALLY lazy, and haven't updated the reference of Zraya, which still has wings and causes misunderstandings among artists/fans.
4.) In the updated version of the comic, Zraya wished that she had wings during the time that she worked with her dragon partner, Frosty. (But Frosty helps her out by taking her for plenty of rides. <3)
